What it is
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) is a 28-amino-acid neuropeptide with broad regulatory roles across the GI tract, lungs, immune system, and vasculature. In research it is studied in two formats: a compounded intranasal spray (roughly 50 mcg per spray) and a subcutaneous research vial (often 10 mg). VIP is also known as aviptadil in some clinical contexts.
Evidence boundary
Studied in human clinical contexts for specific indications; no FDA-approved subcutaneous dosing. Research use is limited to laboratory and education contexts.
Trial evidence
- A penile-injection combination of aviptadil (VIP) 25 mcg plus phentolamine is licensed in some European countries as a second- or third-line ED option. It is not FDA-approved in the US.

Titration rules
- Community-reported dosing most commonly falls between 50–200 mcg per injection; 100 mcg twice daily is one of the most frequently discussed protocols.
- VIP has a very short biological half-life — divided daily dosing is common.
- Start at 50 mcg once daily for 1–2 weeks to assess tolerance.
- Intranasal VIP is dispensed pre-compounded and does not use reconstitution supplies; do not convert one route directly into the other.
- Round up for priming losses and dropped syringes.
- A 10 mg vial gives about 50 doses of 200 mcg, 100 doses of 100 mcg, or 200 doses of 50 mcg.
